Tour Description

In this Niteroi City Tour & Niemeyer route, after crossing the 13 km (8 mi) long bridge you are going to rich Niteroi city, the “smile City”. In fact you may encounter plenty of reasons to smile about. Many beautiful beaches (within the bay or facing the open ocean), historic forts and a world-class museum. The word “Niterói” comes from Tupi and means “water that hides” Besides. Niteroi is scheduled to become in a near future the place with the largest number of works from renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer. Second only to the entire Brazilian capital, Brasilia. See the Niemeyer route or “Caminho Niemeyer” and visit the Teatro Popular, The Memorial and the building of the Foundation Niemeyer. Then drive thru Gragoatá to rich The MAC – Contemporary Art Museum. This intriguing building looks like a flying saucer jutting out over the sea. Designed by Oscar Niemeyer with the assistance of structural engineer Bruno Contarini, who had worked with Niemeyer on earlier projects, the MAC-Niterói is 16 meters high; its cupola has a diameter of 50 meters with three floors. The museum hosts the second-largest collection of contemporary works in Brazil.
During your Niteroi City Tour & Niemeyer route visit Parque da Cidade – From the top of this park you will see a breathtaking view of the Guanabara Bay as well as the city of Rio de Janeiro. You can also enjoy the jumping of hang gliders as well as parapents. It is in the top of a mountain in the neighborhood ‘Charitas’.
