Tour Description

After hotel pickup, you’ll head to visit Corcovado hill to see Brazil’s greatest national icon – The Christ Redeemer Statue of Rio de Janeiro. Is an Art Deco statue, created by Polish-French sculptor Paul Landowski . Build by the Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa, in collaboration with the French engineer Albert Caquot. The face was created by the Romanian artist Gheorghe Leonida. The statue is 30 metres (98 ft) tall, not including its 8-metre (26 ft) pedestal. Its arms stretch 28 metres (92 ft) wide. By comparison, it is approximately two-thirds the height of the Statue of Liberty’s height from base to torch. One of the first people to reach the peak of Corcovado was no less a personage than Dom Pedro I accompanied by his Empress Leopoldina. At the time you reached the summit on a dirt road that cut across the hills from Tijuca Forest in an comfortable  van, you will have see sights like Copacabana beach, Guanabara Palace, the official residence of the State’s Governor, Fluminense Soccer Club and São Judas Tadeu Church.  Tijuca Forest is all that’s left of the Atlantic rain forest that once surrounded Rio de Janeiro. This 39-sq-km tropical-jungle preserve is an exuberant green, with beautiful trees, creeks and waterfalls, mountainous terrain and high peaks. Stop at Paineiras Visitors’ Center, that is well worth a visit on your way to-and-from the summit. It offers restaurants and bars, an excellent souvenir shop, and a series of exhibitions covering not only Corcovado and the statue, but also the Tijuca National Park. Enjoy informative, engaging commentary from our local guide during a 45-minute stop at the famous statue on Corcovado Mountain.
